What To Expect!

As a Board Member of FRIENDS, Inc., you will play a key role in advancing our mission to empower and support survivors of domestic and sexual violence. This leadership role requires active engagement in board and committee meetings, contributing to the strategic direction, financial health, and growth of the organization.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Attend Bi-Monthly Board Meetings: Actively participate in board meetings, which are generally held on the fourth Monday of every other month from 4:30-6:00 pm at FRIENDS, Inc.
  • Committee Participation: Serve on at least one board committee (Governance or Fund Development/Finance) and attend bi-monthly committee meetings. These meetings have traditionally been held on the fourth Monday of the month at 4:30 and 5:30 pm or 5:30 and 6:30 pm at FRIENDS, Inc. Currently, committee meetings are conducted via Zoom.
  • Annual Board Orientation: Attend and participate in an orientation session to familiarize yourself with the organization and board responsibilities.
  • Mission Advocacy: Understand and effectively promote the mission of FRIENDS, Inc. (be able to provide an “elevator speech” when needed).
  • Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive topics discussed at board meetings.
  • Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date on trends in the field of domestic and sexual violence advocacy and related organizational developments.
  • Collaborative Decision-Making: Refrain from acting individually on board responsibilities; focus on team-based, “board-level” decision-making and governance.
  • Financial Contribution: Support FRIENDS, Inc. with a financial donation in a manner that is commensurate with your ability.
  • Fundraising and Networking: Help foster the financial growth and stability of the organization by identifying and recommending potential new donors, or by providing personal contributions to support fundraising efforts.

After our Executive Director or Board of Directors receives your application, they will follow-up with you to schedule training for your volunteer opportunity!
